A resident’s cosmetic treatment session:
My name is Tim Wu and I’m currently a third-year dermatology resident.
During our final year of training, we are fortunate enough to spend 6-8 weeks at Mount Sinai with Dr. Zaiac.
As senior residents, we are truly able to fine-tune our skills in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology under the guidance of Dr. Zaiac. In addition to his vast breadth of knowledge and years of clinical experience, Dr. Zaiac has a passion for teaching that is second to none. He has immense trust in all his residents, which allows for a hands-on learning environment.
Just recently, he entrusted to me the care of a patient with a very large basal cell carcinoma involving half of her right cheek. Under his supervision, I performed 3 stages of Mohs surgery, evaluated the Mohs sections, and closed the defect with a fairly large transposition flap. It was a very educational experience, to say the least.
Dr. Zaiac also gives us the opportunity to book “resident cosmetic sessions.” These sessions are extremely valuable as Dr. Zaiac is right by our side to instruct us on the proper techniques for injecting toxin and filler.
Overall I would say that I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to learn from Dr. Zaiac and look forward to using all his clinical pearls in my future practice.
