Mohs Cancer Surgery

Basal Cell Carcinoma

Many patients can have cancerous cells removed with a visit to the Greater Miami Skin and Laser Center. It is a procedure that can take place in our offices.

Recently a patient came in who was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. We were able to take a sample and test it in house using our state of the art equipment. Basal cell carcinoma is a slow-growing form of skin cancer. Skin cancer falls into two major groups: Nonmelanoma and melanoma. Basal cell carcinoma is a type of nonmelanoma skin cancer. In this case the cancer was on the patients eyelid.

The advantage of this procedure is that we can identity the cancer and remove it completely and “close” the defect offering the best cosmetic solution right after the tumor is removed while preserving the most natural tissue as possible. The best cosmetic result means preserving as much of the tissue as possible and creating a nice reconstruction of the defect in order to minimize the scarring.

Skin cancer can affect the very young and we recommend you see a dermatologist at least once a year especially if you live in a sunny climate and you spend a substantial amount of your time outdoors and exposed to the sun.
