Long lasting cosmetic filler removes wrinkles for up to 2 years!

Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful looking and smooth. Sculptra® Aesthetic is different because it gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles and replaced lost collagen to provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance that can last more than two years.

This cosmetic filler works in a series of treatments over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person.

How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra Aesthetic works within the deep dermis. Within the deep dermis, your skin’s structure is reinforced as Sculptra Aesthetic helps to replace lost collagen. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds* that has been depleted over time. The result? Sculptra injections are different because it gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles. This can provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance that can last more than two years.**

*Safety and effectiveness of Sculptra Aesthetic have not been evaluated in areas other than nasolabial wrinkles and folds in clinical trials.

**Individual results and treatment sessions may vary. The clinical trial by Dr. Martin Zaiac ended at 25 months.

Who is a candidate for Sculptra?

Sculptra is a good treatment choice for adults who want to improve contours where the face has become hollow. This problem can occur at the temples, the cheek area, and around the eyes. Good Sculptra candidates want to address hollowness with a semi-permanent filler that works gradually rather than immediately.

This filler is considered safe and effective for appropriate patients. It should be administered by a board-certified physician who has been trained in the nuances of Sculptra and only after a thorough discussion of health history. Sculptra is not appropriate for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, nor for individuals with an autoimmune condition or weak immune system.

What are the benefits of Sculptra?

Sculptra offers a variety of benefits, including:

  • Minimally-invasive treatment with few side effects. Patients can go about their normal activities after Sculptra injections, which makes this a good option for busy adults.
  • The effects of Sculptra are specific to the injection sites. The FDA-approved drug enhances volume only where injections are administered.
  • Sculptra is not susceptible to collagenases, the breakdown of collagen that occurs in the digest system, because the drug stimulates natural collagen proliferation over time.
  • There is no risk of allergic reactions because Poly-L-lactic-acid is biologically inert.
  • Subtle, natural-looking results. Sculptra is like aging in reverse because it rejuvenates the skin not with particles but with natural collagen. Injections are the trigger for the body to make more collagen, the protein that fills out and firms the skin.

How is Sculptra different than other dermal fillers?

Most dermal fillers are formulated to immediately fill lines and creases. The most popular fillers are made using hyaluronic acid, a naturally-occurring chemical that plumps tissue by binding to water molecules. Sculptra is not a “plumper,” it is a collagen stimulator. It is made using synthetic Poly-L-lactic acid, a derivative of sugar cane. Poly-L-lactic acid has been used for many years to make dissolvable stitches.

Sculptra differs from other dermal fillers in several important ways. First, while it does not achieve immediate results, it does have an immediate impact on the dermis. After injections, patients may notice a slight volume increase. However, this is swelling that lasts only a few days. Sculptra injections affect the dermis, the deeper layer of skin in which collagen is made. This process begins immediately and gradually translates into smoother, fuller, younger-looking skin. Patients appreciate that, after injections, they look younger and younger. People may comment on it but cannot pinpoint why.

What are the side effects of Sculptra?

Injectable treatments typically cause a few temporary side effects. These include bruising, swelling, and redness. There is also a risk of temporary asymmetry and nodules forming under the skin. Nodules can occur right after injections and are usually associated with swelling. If they occur, contact our office for instructions to manage this minor complication. There is a slight risk of keloid scar formation after Sculptra injections. Individuals with a history of hypertrophic scarring may not be good candidates for this treatment.

Are injections painful?

Injectable treatments are typically not completely painless. However, most patients tolerate them very well. The provider uses a small needle to conduct the treatment and, if you are concerned about pain, may arrange to apply a topical numbing cream to your skin before your injections. This can minimize the sensation of the small needle on the skin. Keep in mind that numbing medication can take approximately 30 minutes to work. We want you to be comfortable! Talk to your provider about ways they can help your Sculptra injections go smoothly.

How long will my results last?

Sculptra is a quick treatment for lasting improvement. Collagen is a difficult thing to replace but it is vital to youthful skin. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the skin barrier, so does not make a suitable topical treatment. It has become popular in recent years to ingest collagen supplements. However, the body quickly breaks down the molecules during digestion. Sculptra is a proven collagen stimulator that works directly at the point of volume loss. While the effects of treatment build gradually, rejuvenation lasts approximately 2 years. Subsequent treatments to maintain ongoing collagen remodeling may be scheduled accordingly and often do not require as much product or as many sessions as the original treatment plan.
