Dr. Zaias has conducted many studies concerning the origination, diagnosis, and treatments of skin, nail, and foot diseases, infections, and environmental factors of these conditions. From 1967 to 1968, he worked with the US Armed Forces where he examined soldiers who developed skin conditions due to the climate conditions in the jungle. His research led him to design a special tropical boot for members of the military that allowed them to sustain intense weather conditions. In 1969, he received a commendation from the US Armed Forces medical director for his research with “feet in US Soldiers in the field.”
His groundbreaking research has paved the way for precise diagnosis and treatments for patients with skin and nail disorders and diseases, skin cancer, and other conditions of the skin.Dr. Zaias is the author of three books and has been published extensively in more than 100 professional journals and articles on the subjects of nail diseases, nail fungus (onychomycosis), and other dermatological topics.
