How to properly wash your face

We all know the importance of washing our face every day, but do you know how to properly cleanse your face? Washing your face should be done to remove dirt and oils that can develop throughout the day and contribute to certain conditions such as acne or eczema. At Greater Miami Skin and Laser Center, our dermatologists are here to offer some tips on how to properly cleanse your skin to improve and maintain a healthy and beautiful complexion.

Some tips on the best way to cleanse your skin

There is both a right way and a wrong way to do almost anything. Drs. Martin Zaiac and Nardo Zaias of Greater Miami Skin and Laser Center of Hallandale Beach and Miami Beach, FL, discuss with patients the appropriate steps needed to wash their face!

  • Start by wetting your face with lukewarm water, as this can help prepare the skin for soap by opening up the pores. You should always avoid hot water that can strip your skin of its natural oils.
  • Use a gentle cleanser for the skin or any prescription-based products recommended by your dermatologist. Massage the cleanser into your skin in a circular motion for about 30 seconds before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.
  • Use a soft, clean towel to softly pat your face dry. Be sure not to rub your skin, as this can irritate it.
  • Apply products after the skin is dry. This includes the application of a toner, moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated, and any other topical applications such as acne cream or eczema products as recommended by your dermatologist.
